Cancer Research UK (CRUK) is the Ladies Circle national charity. We have been supporting CRUK for over 50 years and raised in excess of £1.4 million throughout the years.
Sadly, one in nine women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lives. Cancer Research UK is the largest single funder of breast cancer research in the UK. Last year they spent nearly £44 million on ground-breaking research into the disease. CRUK supports over 4,500 world-class scientists, doctors and nurses based in universities, institutes and hospitals throughout the UK. In fact, around 90% of the UK population lives no more than 30 miles from one of their research sites.
Although breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, the number of women dying from the disease has fallen to less than 12,000 for the first time in almost 40 years.
Last year Ladies Circle raised over £13,500 and continue supporting them as volunteers and fund raisers.
Keep up the great work CRUK!
NEW FOR 2010 – CRAFT FOR LIFE
It’s time to get in touch with your creative side and make a card for Cancer Research UK.
This year Cancer Research UK have teamed up with docrafts, the UK’s leading craft company, for the Craft for Life campaign.
The campaign offers a new and exciting way to support the charity by encouraging both experienced crafters and beginners to create one-off card designs that will then be sold in Cancer Research UK shops, with all proceeds going to the charity.
How to Join In
1. Firstly you need to hand make your card. All cards must be A6 in size (105mm x 148mm when folded). Cards can be of any theme using products of your choice but the inside of the card must be left blank.
2. Package your card by inserting it, with an envelope, in to a specially designed Craft for Life ‘card bag’ which you can pick up from your local Cancer Research UK shop or Creativity! Store.
If you think you will need more than 5 envelopes please contact Frances Coveney at CRUK who will post these out to you. (

What docrafts has to say about the campaign:
“Crafting is a huge business – nearly 13 million British women have crafted in the last year. We’ve got so many loyal customers who make stunning, individual cards, and it makes sense to ask them to donate some of these designs to raise money for Cancer Research UK.” - Phil Griffin, Marketing Director, docrafts
What Cancer Research UK has to say about the campaign:
“We’re thrilled to be working with docrafts on this campaign. It’s enabling us to reach a huge number of people with information about the charity and its work. The money that the partnership raises will help us to continue our work on the causes, prevention, detection and treatment of cancer, which has already saved millions of lives across the world.” - Terry Mill, Associate Director – Corporate Partnerships, Cancer Research UK.
RACE FOR LIFE
Since Race for Life began in 1994, Ladies Circle has volunteered around the country to assist Cancer Research UK in what has become their biggest fundraising activity which has to date raised over £100 million for Cancer Research UK's lifesaving work.
Hundreds of circlers around the country give their time and support Race for Life through a variety of activities such as admininistrative roles, marshalling of routes, finish line activities such as handing out goody bags/medals and even clearing up afterwards.
Lots of us also choose to run, walk or crawl around the course too!
To sign up for your local race or become a volunteer click on www.raceforlife.org website and find your race event and fill in the online volunteer registration form.
RELAY FOR LIFE
This unique event that gives a community the chance to celebrate the lives of people touched by cancer while raising funds for vital research.
Each Relay lasts between 12 and 24 hours and always takes place overnight. It is normally held at a park, running track or field. Teams of 8–15 supporters take turns to walk around a 'track' for the duration of the event.
The whole community is invited to come along on the day to show their support and participate. For more information click on: www.cancerresearchuk.org/relay/
JOIN THE FIGHT FOR WOMENS SURVIVAL
Women’s fight for survival continues into 2010! The theme - ‘Join the fight for women’s survival’, has been designed to act as a rallying call for individuals and organisations to support the charity’s life-saving breast cancer research.
Other activities to take place under the new identity includes a wide ranging PR campaign, a range of Cancer Research UK pink items available in the charity's own shops and local community fundraising events, such as pink parties and walks.
