Ladies Circle

Circle History

Ladies Circle
1932 to...

Whilst Ladies Circle is a modern, forward thinking, young women’s organisation we’ve been around for nearly 75 years!

Our origins are with the young man’s organisation Round Table. Circle was originally founded as a social group for the wives of Tablers.

Bournemouth No 1 circle founded in 1932 and it’s still going strong! Eight more circles followed in 1936 in Manchester, Hastings, Liverpool, Doncaster, Middlesborough, Wolverhampton and Southampton.

In 1947 Circle started to spread internationally with Great Britain & Ireland (GB&I) helping to set up Circles in Denmark & Sweden. This lead to the founding of the Ladies Circle International organisation in 1958 to bring together Circlers from across the globe.

The 1950’s lead onto Circle adopting Imperial Cancer Research as our national charity, Imperial is now known as Cancer Research UK.

In the 1990’s the organisation opened up its membership to all women. Whilst acknowledging the roots of our organisation and still being part of the Round Table family (Round Table, Tangent & 41 Club), Circle is now a unique, organisation open to ALL women aged 18-45.

So arrives the noughties!! Janie Lee Grace joined us in 2006 as our patron, over 250 groups nationally, a thriving membership and thousands of women enjoying the fun and friendship Circle has to offer. Come and join us...
